midfielder has praised the impact of head coach as his club are on course to lift a double titles this season.

The Southern Tigers will face UAE giant Al Ahli in a two-legged final, with the first leg to be played on Saturday night at Al-Rashid Stadium after winning their fifth Chinese Super League consecutive title last week.

Despite having an ‘unforgettable’ memory with Scolari when they in a World Cup match with Brazil and oversaw a humiliating 7-1 semi-final defeat by Germany last year, the 27-year-old remains optimistic.

“I worked with Scolari with the national team. He gave me the opportunity to play at the World Cup and one week after he came to Guangzhou I signed my contract,” Paulinho said.

“I was confident because I could work with him again. He has given me the opportunity to play in two finals, the first one in winning the Chinese league and the second in the Champions League.

“I won’t forget about the semi-final in the World Cup as it is impossible to forget, but football is good as you lose one year and then the next year you get two more chances.”

Paulinho was one of Scolari’s first signings when he joined Guangzhou from English side Tottenham Hotspur for €14 million in last June.
