Iranian star Ashkan Dejagah has insisted that his side are capable to finish as group stage winner in the second round of 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers campaign.
The 29-year-old winger also claimed that Team Melli men are in good form after winning 3-1 over Turkmenistan and determined to continue the fine display in the upcoming Group D’s match against Guam on Tuesday.
“We had a very good win against Turkmenistan on Thursday in Tehran. We had a lot of goal scoring opportunities and we could have scored more, however a 3-1 win is also good,” Dejagah told ISNA.
“We have climbed to the top of our group and a win against Guam on Tuesday will make us the favorite to win the group and qualify to the next round.”
Carlos Queiroz’s men will face a tough challenge when playing an away game in Guam following visa problems which happened to several of his teammates including Ehsan Hajsafi and Alireza Haghighi, but Dejagah remains optimistic.
“Everybody knows what happened during the last week and we will not have a couple of our key players against Guam due to visa issues,” the Al Arabi attacking midfielder said.
“This was not the only problem, because we had to make a very long trip to Guam while the game will be held on artificial pitch. Despite all these difficulties we will try our best to get the three points and make our fans happy.”
