A bright new era of football in Timor Leste began this month, following the official launch of the national amateur league labelled Liga Futebol Amadora (LFA).
Designed to allow local footballers to flourish, the LFA will give a home to amateur football in Timor Leste, with the potential to create a gateway to professional football.
The launch of 21-team league became a major step in the evolution of football in the Southeast Asian nation with the LFA will also serve as a stepping-stone to build professional league in the future.
With the establishment of new league, Timor Leste are aiming to improve their standard in international football. They have never qualified for any major tournaments since making debut in March 2003.
