Former Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) coach and international has accepted to take charge of NT in the coming time. The position was left vacant when Japanese man Toshiya Miura was fired by Football Federation () in January.

Mr. Le Hoai Anh, general secretary of VFF, who was directly in talks with Huu Thang believes the SLNA legend is the right choice for Vietnam national team and confirms the imminent deal.

“Nguyen Huu Thang has agreed with VFF’s offer before New Lunar Year but we decided to keep secret as we still had to discuss personal terms”, said Le Hoai Anh.

After officially signing a contract, Nguyen Huu Thang will coach Vietnam for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Chinese Taipei (24/3) and Iraq (29/3).

Nguyen Huu Thang, 44, was a former national team player before starting managerial career with SLNA in 2005. He led his hometown club to V.League title in 2011.
