January’s Best Asian Player in Europe: Alireza Jahanbakhsh

From Japan, South Korea and Australia, all the way to Iran, Iraq, and Uzbekistan, AFC players have moved to Europe to advance their football career. At Football Channel Asia, we start tracking performance rating of AFC footballers since September and point out who currently play at top seven European leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France and Netherlands.

The following are the current rankings of top 20 players who have made at least two appearances for their club in January:

1. Alireza Jahanbakhsh is Dutch team AZ Alkmaar’s Iranian striker. The 22-year-old staring new year with an outstanding month, providing 2 assists and 1 goal in his 4 appearances in January. His passing accuracy stands at 67% and with a rating of 8.02. He is the highest rated Asian player in the month of January.

2. Jeong-Ho Hong is the South Korean defender currently playing for Bundesliga side Augsburg. His impressive games in January and impressive passing accuracy of 83% earned him a rating of 7.76 out of 10.
3. Keisuke Honda is the well-known Japanese player currently playing in Italy’s Serie-A league. The AC Milan midfielder, appeared in all competitions in the month of January and provided 2 assists in 7 appearances. With the passing accuracy of 81%, his rating jumped to 7.45 out of 10 in the New Year.

4. Mike Havenaar is the Japanese striker who currently plays for Ado Den Haag of Dutch league. The striker has had 4 league appearances in January, of which netting 3 goals and providing 1 assist. His passing accuracy is 58.5% and a rating of 7.21 out of 10.

5. Mathew Leckie is the 25-year-old Aussie midfielder playing for Bundesliga side Inglostadt. He made 2 appearances in the month of January, and with passing accuracy of 69%. He earned the rating of 7.06 out of 10 to make it among top 5 highest rated Asian player for the first month of 2016.
