The 20-year-old forward told local newspaper that Mito Hollyhock hasn’t submitted the final squad list to play in the upcoming J2 League season.
Nguyen Cong Phuong’s name didn’t appear in a squad list of 26 players registered to play in the first stage of the 2016 J2 League season. The list was published on the club’s official website.
The Vietnamese player suffered from a broken collarbone that could keep out of action up to four months, and sources said Mito Hollyhock might decide against registering him, fearing he might not ready to play in the first stage of the season.
However, the promising forward believed he still had a chance to play in the league for Mito Hollyhock.
“I had a talk with the board and they told me the list submitted to the Japan Football Federation was only the first one, and the final list will be submitted before the deadline which is 31 March. So I still have a chance to play in the first stage of the league”, Nguyen Cong Phuong told local newspaper.
“Doctors said I’m out of action for at least two months, but I’m feeling fine, and I’m very hopeful to make a quick recovery”, he said.
