Vietnam national team will hope to play friendly matches against Syria and two other national teams at the end of May, a Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) official said.
“The national team will be called up at the end of May, and hopefully we can play a friendly match with Syria. After that, the team will arrive in Myanmar to participate in a friendly tournament, playing two matches on June 3 and June 5”, VFF general secretary Le Hoai Anh confirmed.
According to reports, Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore and another national team will participate in the friendly tournament in question.
At the moment, it is unknown which format the tournament will be play with. VFF general secretary Le Hoai Anh said it would be played in a knock-out format, while according to other news sources, a round-robin format might be used to determine two teams that go on to play in the final.
Vietnam has been eliminated from 2018 AFC World Cup qualification, after a 1-0 defeat by Iraq. However, the Golden Stars has qualified for the third round of 2019 Asian Cup qualification.
