Adelaide United have clinched the A-League’s Premiers Plate after Brisbane Roar blew the chance to finish top of the standings were held by Melbourne Victory to a goalless draw on Saturday night.
After dispatching Melbourne City 2-0 on Friday, Roar needed to win over weakened-side Victory in order to win the premiership, but they failed to beat Victory’s keeper Lawrence Thomas, who produced a heroic performance.
The result left The Reds one point ahead of Brisbane with the Western Sydney Wanderers four points behind and Melbourne City five.
“This is a fantastic achievement for our team and our Club,” said the Adelaide coach Guillermo Amor. “I am very proud of the way our boys have played throughout this season.
“We deserve this title because our team has worked very hard all season and even when things were not going so good at the start of the campaign, we always had belief in one another and in the football we were playing.”
Through their triumph, the 2008 Asian Champions League runner-up will not play again until week two of the A-League’s Grand Finals when they will host a semi-final stage.
