Ranking 20 best Asian players in Europe in March

As impressive as it sounds, there are 80 Asian football players playing in European continent this season. From Japan, South Korea, and North Korea, all the way to Iran, Iraq, and Uzbekistan, Asian players have moved to Europe to advance their football career at football hubs of Europe. Out of 80 Asian players, many play in 2nd division leagues of Europe, or European league such as Russia, Turkey, and Poland, which are not considered the elite European leagues.

At Football Channel Asia, we have started tracking 40 Asian players who currently play at top European leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, and Netherlands.
The criteria is to play in top division of leagues above.

For the month of March, all 40 Asian players’ statistics were tracked, and here we will review the number of goals scored, assists, their Pass Accuracy Ratio % and their ratings.

Iranian attacker Alireza Jahanbakhsh was January and February’s best rated player but dropped to 6th position last month. He lost his top place to Australian midfielder .

Sorted by highest rating:

1. Mathew Leckie is the 25 year old Australian attacking midfielder who plays for Bundesliga side Ingolstadt. During the month of March, his rating was the highest of all other Asian players at 7.71 out of 10. Leckie featured in 3 games in March, of which in particular against their strong opponent, Stuttgart, he scored one goal in Ingolstadt’s 3-3 tie, and he was also named Man of the Match due to his outstanding game. His superb rating of 9.02 for that match, is the highest rating for an Asian player we have tracked so far.

2. Ali Adnan is the Iraqi midfielder who plays for Serie A side Udinese. Ali Adnan surpassed his previous month’s great run and recorded his best month in March with rating of 7.60 out of 10. In March he played 2 games for Udinese, including the match against AS Roma, and recorded 70% passing accuracy.

3. Ja-Cheol Koo is the 27 year old South Korean midfielder who currently plays for Bundesliga side Augsburg. During month of March, he recorded his best month so far with rating of 7.51 out of 10. Ja-Cheol featured in all the games last month, of which he particularly starred in the match against Bayer Leverkusen. Augsburg managed to stall Bayer 3-3 all thanks to Ja-Cheol whom scored all the 3 goals for his team, and was named Man of the Match for his outstanding game.

4. Brad Jones, is Australia’s 34 year old goalkeeper who plays for Dutch side NEC Nijmegan. Jones has a strong month in March, with impressive rating of 7.42 out of 10. He featured in 3 games in March, of which he kept NEC Nijmegan’s net closed in 2 games, and was impressive in net against Ajax, to stall the leaders, 2-2. Jones was picked as Man of the Match against Ajax.

5. Mile Jedinak is Australia’s defensive midfielder who currently plays for English Premier League side, Crystal Palace. In March, the 31 year old recorded his best rating, 7.33 out of 10. He featured in all Crystal Palace’s games and particularly against Leicester City, champions candidate, his strong ball interception and tackling against their strong opponent earned him “Man of the Match” title, despite their 0-1 loss to Leicester City. Jedinak also has a strong passing accuracy of 71%.
