AFC to replace AFC Challenge Cup with new tournament

has proposed to create a new tournament for lower-ranking countries such as Nepal, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who usually failed to qualify for continental tournament like the Asian Cup.

The new tournament will be held every four year, and the inaugural tournament could begin in November 2016. The following edition of the tournament is expected to be held in September 2020.

Nepal, Brunei, Macau, Pakistan, Mongolia and Sri Lanka are said to compete in the inaugural tournament, along with two losing teams in the play-off round of 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification.
