Ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been offered a return to the management game as the Indonesian Sports and Youth Ministry wants to sign him as national team coach.
The Portuguese has been without a job since being dismissed by the English Premier League giants in December last year following a dismal start to the 2015/16 season campaign.
Imam Nahrawi, the Sports Minister, revealed that his side has discussed the idea with the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Indonesian Olympic Committee’s chairman Erick Thohir before making any formal approach to Mourinho.
“We hope the arrival of Mourinho could lift our football fans’ passion and it is also our motivation to boost the players’ morale,” Imam was quoted as saying by Goal Indonesia.
The 53-year-old tactician, who has also managed Porto, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, has been linked with Manchester United.
Indonesia, who were the first Asian team to participate in the 1938 World Cup as the Dutch East Indies, are currently under FIFA’s suspension due to government interference in May last year.
