Burnley are hoping to secure the South Korea midfielder Lee Chung-yong from Crystal Palace as they seek to strengthen for their return to the Premier League.
Lee, a £700,000 signing from Bolton Wanderers in January 2015, has only ever enjoyed a bit-part role at Selhurst Park having made 20 appearances in all competitions.
He was fined by Alan Pardew for comments made to the Korean newspaper, Sports Seoul, earlier this year in which the 28-year-old suggested the Palace manager had made some “absurd” selections and was “too hot-tempered in matches, so he even forgets how many substitutes are left”.
His last appearance for the club was a 12-minute cameo on the final afternoon of the season, a 4-1 defeat at Southampton.
Burnley have yet to make a signing since securing promotion back to the top flight after claiming the Championship. Lee, who spent five and a half years at Bolton, is likely to cost them around £1m.
