Buriram United made the official appointment of the club new head coach Ranko Popovic.
After parting way with Iranian coach, Afshin Ghotbi last Saturday, Buriram United made the high-profile appointment with the 49-year-old Serbian, Ranko Popovic. The former Real Zaragoza head coach is ready to lead the northeast club in the last 6 games of 2016 Thai League and the second leg of 2016 League Cup semi-finals.
Ranko Popovic had coached Real Zaragoza in Spanish Segunda in the last season. He also has the experience in Asia with Oita Trinita, Michida Zelvia, FC Tokyo and Cerezo Osaka between 2009-2014. Popovic’s Cerezo Osaka faced Buriram two times in 2014 AFC Champions League Group Stage and managed to collect 4 points from Thai champions.
Alongside with Popovic, the Serbian coach Vladica Grujic is also appointed as the assistant coach. The 53-year-old Grujic is the assistant of Popovic since the time at FC Tokyo in 2013.
Beside Popovic and Grujic, another surprise is Bozidar Bandovic who returns to Buriram United as the technical director. Bandovic was the head coach of Buriram for the short stint in 2014. After leaving Sisaket FC weeks ago, the Serbian is returning to Buriram again for the new challenge.
