PS TNI goalkeeper Teguh Amiruddin will be called up to the Indonesia national team to replace Kurnia Meiga, who has been withdrawn due to an injury.
The decision to call the 23-year-old goalkeeper up to the national team came as a surprise because he hasn’t represented Indonesia at a senior level before, and he wasn’t named on previous provisional squad lists.
According to Indonesia national team assistant coach Wolfgang Pikal, Teguh Amiruddin was called-up because major clubs refused to release more than two players to play for the national team.
“We value his abilities as a goalkeeper and see him as a potential goalkeeper for the national team in the future. We also choose him because clubs like Persib Bandung, Sriwijaya FC, and Mitra Kukar already released two players”, Pikal told local newspapers.
