Hanoi T&T has won the 2016 V.League title after a remarkable 2-0 win against FLC Thanh Hoa at the final round of the league on September 18.
Hanoi T&T and Hai Phong came into the final round with the same points haul (47), but the former had a goal differential advantage. As a result, Hanoi T&T’s 2-0 victory over FLC Thanh Hoa was enough for them to win their first league title since 2013.
Hai Phong had to settle for the runner-up position despite putting a valiant effort to secure a 3-0 victory against Song Lam Nghe An.
SHB Da Nang finished third on the league table, just one point behind Hanoi T&T and Hai Phong. Their striker Gaston Merlo was the top scorer this season, scoring an incredible 24 goals in 26 matches.
At the opposite end of the table, Dong Thap was relegated with just 8 points from 26 matches, while Long An FC will participate in a play-off match to decide their fate in the league next season.
