Coach Alfred Riedl is making an attempt to call naturalized player Stefano Lilipaly to the national team, sources revealed.
Lilipaly, who is eligible to play for Indonesia through his father, is currently plying his trade at Dutch club Telstar. The 26-year-old midfielder is highly rated by Alfred Riedl himself as well as the coaching staff, as he could strengthen Indonesia’s midfield considerably.
The Football Federation of Indonesia (PSSI) has sent a request to his club Telstar, asking them to release him from club duties in order to make him available to play at the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.
However, as the AFF Suzuki Cup is not held on FIFA international matchday, the Dutch club has no obligation to release Stefano Lilipaly.
“We are expecting an answer from his club over the next week”, Indonesia national team assistant coach Wolfgang Pikal told local newspapers.
