U19 team head coach Hoang Anh Tuan was full of praise for his team after a 0-0 draw against Iraq which helped the young Golden Stars to advance to the quarter-finals of the AFC U19 Championship for the first time.

Heading into the match with 4 points from two matches, Vietnam only needed a draw to secure their place in the quarter-finals. Against an Iraq team with nine substitute players, Vietnam was able to hold their opponents to a goalless draw.

“I’m very proud of our players today. We have written a new chapter in Vietnamese football history. It’s true that we came to the match looking for a draw, but a 0-0 result against a team with better tactics, technique and stamina than us makes me proud”, coach Hoang Anh Tuan said in a post-match conference.

Meanwhile, Iraqi coach Abbas Atiyah was also pleased with the result.

“I want to thank the team for their performance in this game. We played nine substitutes today to give them a chance to experience the atmosphere”, Atiyah said.

“We need them to have high levels of stamina so they can be ready for upcoming matches”.
