Sukhothai has been awarded the FA Cup title and a place in next year’s AFC Champions League after a drawing of lots yesterday, official sources confirmed.
The Thai club will participate in the preliminary round two of AFC Champions League qualification stage, along with Bangkok United. Meanwhile, Muangthong will earn a direct entry into the group stage.
Following the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej last Thursday, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has decided to cancel all remaining fixtures of the 2016 season.
Muangthong United was declared the winners of this year’s Thai Premier League, while Bangkok United secured a place in the AFC Champions league as the runners-up.
For the Toyota League Cup, finalists Buriram United and Muangthong will share the trophy and prize money. Muangthong United will play in the Premier Cup, and Buriram United will play in the Mekong Club Championship.
