Vietnam U19 head coach Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his delight after overseeing the young Golden Stars’ historic victory over hosts Bahrain at the 2016 U19 AFC Championship.
This result means Vietnam has qualified the FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 – the country’s first time ever.
“What can I say now? I’m very happy and proud of my players,” Hoang said in a post-match conference.
“This is the result of a long period of preperation, not just what you see today. You need time to build mentality and focus. It is our strong point and you saw it today with our mentality and fighting spirit”, said Hoang.
Meanwhile, Bahrain coach Abdulaziz Abdo has offered an apology to the fans.
“I would like to apologise to the Bahraini fans who came for this match today,” said Abdulaziz Abdo. “Sometimes you have a dream and you think about it a lot, but in the end it doesn’t happen.
“We conceded a goal from a free kick in the match and we couldn’t get back into the game. For that I would like to say I’m sorry”.
